Better late than never as they say!
Can you believe it’s February already? I feel like this year is already flying by, although some people said to me that they felt January was a long ole month!
Anyway, I wanted to pull together this blog post as a positive start to 2018. In the past, I used to be all about the ‘new year, new start’ facade, but over the years I’ve come to realise that you can’t really start ‘new’ but you can most certainly make improvements if you wish.
A new year for me is all about having a fresh mindset and making the most of the year ahead. Personally, making lists of unrealistic plans is a waste of time. I never get around to them and end up feeling disappointed at the end of the year because I have unachieved what I “set out to do.”
Therefore, instead, I prefer to pull together a ‘Top 5 Goals.’ It’s important to me that I am passionate about the goals I set, and they are all achievable. So, here they are, my top 5:
Of course, my focus for this year is my blog. For years I have set up blogs on and off, testing different platforms. Before this blog, I had a blog on Blogger, another WordPress blog and one on Wix. It’s fair to say, I have given this whole blogging thing a strong attempt (no messing around here).
Despite not being consistent in the past, I have learned so much from trying and to be completely honest, this time it feels right. Every time I started a blog before I wasn’t sure what topics I wanted to talk about, how to properly set it up, what social channels to use and how I wanted my images to look, there was no strategy behind what I was trying to achieve.
Now, I have all of that in order and I have a clear direction for my blog. As I am in full time work, my plan is to start off slow and produce one blog post a week whether that be Beauty or Lifestyle. Around this, I am of course keeping active on Twitter and Instagram so followers are able to keep up to date with me on there.
I’m very excited about officially starting my little blog, as I love sharing my thoughts through writing. I thoroughly enjoy creating every post and I’m ready to give it my all. So, here’s to my first year of blogging!
This goal is very important to me, and I am adamant on achieving this in 2018. There are two charities that are very close to my heart from both personal and family reasons. The work these charities do is phenomenal, and I want to do all I can to raise money for them both, so they can continue their amazing work.
Last year, I decided that I want to do a Skydive as my chosen fundraising activity. I signed up to do a skydive for the charity Mind and they sent me all the gear. It’s now on me to start fundraising, take the plunge and arrange the dive. I’ll let you know how I get on with this one!
Okay, where do I even start with this one. My teeth, easily, a full story itself, but, I’m not going to bore you with that for now. One of my biggest flaws is my teeth. Unfortunately for me, my teeth are hard work and this journey is not going to be easy but, either way I’m keen to start it this year.
I’ll cut the story short, basically, I was born with 5 adult teeth missing and I currently still have 3 of my baby teeth. This poses problems for me now, so, my only two solutions are braces and implants, both of which are going to be costly.
This year, I really feel as though I should just go for it and get them done because I know it will make me feel 100x better. At the end of last year, I had 4 consultations, but, was presented with two different opinions, which makes this decision very challenging for me, but fingers crossed I am offered a solution to fix my teeth and finally feel confident about my smile. I am keen to document my teeth journey or put it all in a long blog post, so keep an eye out for that if you’re interested.
Yes, a classic, travelling. Very cliché, but who doesn’t want to travel more right? For me, this goal is not actually about going “travelling” as in relocating for months to various interesting countries (even though I would love too!!).
This goal is more focused on exploring and taking long weekends to visit places such as Germany, Barcelona and even Ireland (as I’ve never been!). I just want to make the most of my weekends this year by exploring new places where and when I can. This one may need a bit of planning, but I’m eager to start and discover some new cultures.
Last but by no means least, yoga! To tell the truth, I am useless at committing to exercise classes, I used to do loads of different activities when I was younger but never devoted myself to any.
Over the years, I have grown a soft spot for yoga, and have previously practised moves in the house by following YouTube videos. Even though this is a great way to learn, I have recently moved to a new area, so it would be great for me socially to join a local class to do yoga instead.
By doing yoga I am hoping it will help me to focus more by putting my efforts into an activity that’s challenging yet calming at the same time. I have a very overactive mind, so I am going to give yoga my best shot to improve both mentally and physically – wish me luck!
I hope you enjoyed this post, I always love reading these posts at the start of each year to help motivate and inspire me. There are a few goals I have mentioned that I am most likely going to document on my blog throughout achieving them, which hopefully will be good to reflect on at the end of the year. If you have done a similar post, pop a link to it in the comments below, I would love to read them! 😊
Here’s to 2018!
